Monthly Anniversary Celebration!
April has a reputation for being a very wet month. Now, we all know that water isn’t really blue, but it certainly appears that way. What’s your favorite shade of blue? Is it a milky turquoise like some glacial lakes, or dark blue like the deep ocean?
Create something blue this month or think about a way to include a raindrop or cloud on your project. |

The Power of Three: A Core Value, Woven Into Every Stitch
As Knitting4Peace celebrates 20 years of service, reflection, and community, we are lifting up one of our most meaningful guiding principles: the Power of Three.
The Power of Three invites us to intentionally incorporate some element of three into every item made for Knitting4Peace. It is a simple practice with deep meaning—one that reminds us why we do this work and how each stitch carries purpose far beyond the yarn in our hands.
At its heart, the Power of Three honors our commitment to being a channel of Hope, Healing, and Peace—or, as many of our makers describe it, Compassion, Creativity, and Comfort. Whether that “three” shows up in a pattern repeat, a color choice, or a quiet intention held while making, it becomes a way of grounding our work in values that matter. Three also represents the sacred relationship at the center of Knitting4Peace:
The person who makes the item The person who receives it
The power of inspiration that motivates us to be of service Each piece we create connects these three forces—maker, recipient, and the shared human desire to care for one another.
Finally, the Power of Three reflects a foundational belief of Knitting4Peace: that increased peacemaking efforts among people of the three Abrahamic faiths—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—are essential to building a more peaceful world. This belief has guided our mission from the beginning and continues to shape our work today. As we move through our 20th year, we invite you to lean into the Power of Three—thoughtfully, creatively, and intentionally. It is one more way we weave meaning into our making, and peace into the world, one stitch at a time. |

Community Member of the Month:
The Heather Gardens Peace Pod |
Happy March! This month we were fortunate to be able to speak with Jill Miller, organizer of the Heather Gardens Peace Pod. The seeds of this active group began when Jill joined a small knitting group meeting at Temple Sinai back in 2013. Shortly before the COVID epidemic began, Jill invited others to join her and they migrated to meeting at Heather Gardens so that they could expand their membership and become an official “Peace Pod.” A core group has been meeting there ever since, utilizing a Zoom meeting format when they were unable to meet in person. The group now meets monthly in one of their homes and they enjoy making items for Knitting4Peace, as well as several other groups. Jill says they “end up getting on a mission” and become very focused on making items for specific groups, which have included not only Knitting4Peace but also the Women’s Bean Project and the Florence Crittendon Home. Making items for other community groups allows them the opportunity to make unusual items that might not be what Knitting4Peace needs at any given time. They also enjoy learning about and connecting with other groups in their community that are in need of support.
Members of the Heather Gardens Peace Pod are the recipients of frequent donations of yarn, which they often use to make items in their own homes and then bring them to the group’s meetings. Once there they spend several hours chatting and making items together. There are knitters and crocheters in the group. Some even have enjoyed using a small knitting machine. During their meetings, Jill gently reminds others of the importance of K4P’s Consistency Standards and shares what she knows about current K4P needs. They encourage each other to try new techniques, make different items, and use a variety of yarns. Jill notes that bulky yarns can make great scarves!

Jill shared that all the Heather Gardens Peace Pod members really love making a difference. She remarked, “It is the driving force as we all know how blessed and fortunate we are. If we can make someone’s life better, we’re happy to do it.” Jill encourages other makers and Peace Pods to “Make with the right intentions.” We are grateful to Jill and the Heather Gardens Peace Pod for their ongoing partnership with Knitting4Peace. Thank you for being our Community Members of the Month! |

Many of our K4P Community Partners are requesting blankets for their clients. We continue to need blankets in all sizes, especially as more programs become aware of Knitting4Peace.
Small knitted, crocheted, or quilted blankets that are a minimum of 26” and a maximum of 30” often go to the Global Health Program in Guatemala and the UC Health Center in Colorado. Please do not make blankets in this size with lacy patterns as the holes can pose a challenge for little fingers and toes. Regular sized baby blankets which are a minimum of 30" up to 52”, are regularly requested by Motherwise, the schools we work with, and Denver Health, among many others. Both lightweight and heavy weight blankets are welcome. Quilts, too! Lap or throw blankets are quite variable in size. These are meant to provide warmth and comfort, covering adult legs and feet. They typically are anywhere from 40” to 60” in width and length. Larger blankets or quilts have been requested by programs like the Family Tree. They would typically include knitted, crocheted, or quilted items that are twin-sized or larger. These would be cost-prohibitive to mail but local donations are welcome. |

If you haven’t checked out the K4P website lately, we encourage you to take a few moments to review the K4P Guidelines for requested items. Knitters, crocheters, and quilters are amazingly creative and often like to make a variety of items. However, we have a limited selection of items we are able to accept for distribution to groups and organizations. These are detailed on the website.
Our Knitting4Peace Community Partners typically are small non-profits or schools who are running on shoestring budgets. They often rely on a small staff and/or volunteers to distribute all the beautifully made items they receive from Knitting4Peace and typically have very limited storage space. It makes it easier for our Community Partners when K4P responds to their requests for specific items in standard sizes (hats, scarves, mittens, blankets, baby booties, Peace Pals, finger puppets) so they then can distribute them quickly to those who are most in need.
It can be challenging for our Community Partners to sort, store, and distribute unusual items, like toys, bags, sweaters, fashion scarves, no matter how wonderful those items might be. Thanks so much for checking in with us before sending in items that are not listed on our K4P website!
