November – Give thanks.
Be thankful for what you have, and think of those less fortunate. Consider donating your crocheted or knitted items locally. Our Deliveries page gives guidance on how to get your items to people in need in your area, and there’s a link on that page to a form you can fill out to let us know who you helped.

Friends- This November, we are taking a moment of gratitude for our Peace Maker monthly donors. At Knitting4Peace, so much of what we do is made possible by people whose generosity quietly shows up month after month. Our Peace Makers are those extraordinary people. Your recurring gifts are so much more than donations. They are the steady heartbeat of our organization, the foundation we can count on, and the reassurance that we can keep doing this work even when the road ahead feels uncertain. Because of you, we can plan for tomorrow, prepare for upcoming deliveries, and continue bringing handmade comfort, compassion, and peace to people who need to know they are not forgotten.
Every hat, blanket, scarf, and Peace Pal we share carries a message of love. And woven into every one of those gifts is the generosity of people like you who make this work possible.
You may not always see the faces of the children who receive a warm hat, the families comforted by a handmade blanket, or the people who feel a little less alone because someone cared enough to make something just for them. But please know that your kindness reaches farther than you may ever realize. To our Peace Makers: thank you for believing in Knitting4Peace, for standing beside us, and for being the backbone and stability that allow our small organization to do such meaningful work. Your faithful generosity is a gift in itself, and we are deeply, truly grateful for you. You help us keep the promise that comfort and peace can reach someone, somewhere, every single day. With heartfelt gratitude,
Kelly & the K4P Team |

Community Member of the Month: Stitches of Love Peace Pod in Hudson, Ohio |
This month, we had such fun chatting with Eileen G. and learning about the Stitches of Love Peace Pod in Hudson, Ohio. Eileen first encountered members of this group over 12 years ago when she was recovering from an accident at a rehabilitation facility. The loosely organized group, based at a local Episcopal church, had decided to hold a meeting at the rehab facility. Janet, one of the members who happens to be a Master Knitter, brought along two skeins of yarn and a child’s weaving loom to help amuse Eileen and pass the time. Once Eileen recovered, group members learned that she had a knack for communication and she soon became an integral part of this group that grew into a Peace Pod.
The Stitches of Love Peace Pod now typically meets on Tuesday afternoons and occasionally on Sundays so that those who work have an opportunity to join them. They begin each meeting with a prayer that uses knitting and weaving as metaphors for helping others. They then spend their time happily working their needles, hooks, and looms while chatting and eating. There is always much laughter and fun!
The members of Stitches of Love delight in making a wide variety of items, especially prayer shawls, hats, scarves, mittens, blankets, and finger puppets. Ruth Ann, who crochets, had special labels made to remind shawl recipients that they are “wrapped in love”. The group donates most of their items in their local community, often to the International Institute of Akron which has served area refugees since 1912. Through the years they have made many sleeping mats which they send directly to the American Foundation for Children with AIDS. We are thankful that Stitches of Love continues to send many Peace Pals to our Denver headquarters as they enjoy contributing to Knitting4Peace’s international reach.
Group members enjoy being open to new possibilities and welcoming new members. An example of this is their connection with Emily, a high school student who had spoken with the church’s priest about her desire to create a project to support the Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center, which serves those impacted by domestic abuse. The priest introduced Emily to the group and now they are working together to make granny squares with plans to donate afghans and shawls. Each unique square is made using red and white yarns and all have a special heart design.

| Stitches of Love Peace Pod |
Recently, Stitches of Love group members were brought closer together when Cindy, one of their long-time members, was diagnosed with ALS, a devastating neurodegenerative illness. Cindy had been working on a sampler afghan when she found she could no longer work her knitting needles and reached out to the group for help. The Stitches of Love Peace Pod members, along with several friends, pitched in to finish the afghan squares. With so many hands working on the squares, the afghan was soon completed and the church held a special blessing ceremony. It was a testament to the loving bonds and care the group had built with each other over the years. Cindy continues to attend meetings when she can, though physical access is often challenging.
We are honored that Eileen, Cindy, and the members of the Stitches of Love Peace Pod chose to generously share their story with us and thank them for being our October Community Members of the Month. We know that all of our Peace Pods and individual K4P makers have their own unique, beautiful stories and it brings us such joy to be able to hear and share them. We are grateful to be doing this most important work with you as we work together to help make our world a better place.

Item Requests: Mittens, Hats, Scarves
At the risk of sounding like broken record… the need for all cold weather items continues and we expect that it will be strong throughout the winter. We regularly hear from our Community Partners that mittens are among the most treasured items they share with others but we rarely are able to fill all the requests we receive for them. We also continue to need hats and scarves for both adults and children. We hope you know that we are aware of the time and skill needed to make so many special items by hand and are thankful whenever you choose to send them to us to share with others. Thank you so very much!

Consistency is Key: Infant Items
We receive so many requests for infant items from a variety of groups and truly appreciate the way you step up to help meet this need. Here are a few friendly reminders of our guidelines: Small infant blankets should be between 26” and 30” on all sides. Please do not send any blankets that are smaller than this! These blankets are sent to NICU units and to some international programs. Avoid making blankets that are lacey or have holes as tiny fingers, toes, or IV tubes may get caught in them. Large baby blankets are more flexibly sized, ranging from 30”-52”. These are requested by several different programs. Small and large baby blankets may be knitted, crocheted, or quilted.
Infant hats must have a circumference of 13” or larger. This means that they must be 6.5” in diameter. Hats up to 18” circumference (9” diameter) are worn by children younger than age 3. We love seeing all the fun colors and yarns you use! However, the smallest sized hats are best made with soft yarns.
| |
| Booties should be 3”- 4” from heel to toe and may be made with any soft and washable yarn. Please use a piece of yarn to tie pairs together. Do not use safety pins as these must be removed. Animal hair and strong scents can be a health risk, especially for infants and young children so please make sure there are no hairs or scents on any item you send us. |
We ask that you kindly review and follow our guidelines before sending us your items. It’s important that you check in with us before sending in any items that are not listed on our K4P website. If you enjoy making and donating items not listed on our website, we encourage you to check with local organizations, who may be in need of those items.
