prayer for a Justice Vigil

We stand here in the dark & cold,

gathered from many places,

united by a single thread:

our commitment to justice & dignity for all people.

We stand here in the dark & cold

because we know

compassion is stronger than fear,

love is stronger than hate,

hope is stronger than despair.

We stand here in the dark & cold because

we stand in solidarity with each other and this gives us strength.

We stand in solidarity with those who are victims of violence and

this gives them courage.

We stand in solidarity with those who are in prisons of economic and

social injustice and this gives the world hope for a day when

global economies provide enough food to fill every hungry body;

and when families every where can live together in peace.

We stand here in the dark & cold

wrapped in Peace Shawls that symbolize the solidarity & prayers of

thousands of women across the United States & Canada.

We pray that every time we wear this shawl we will feel their love & support.

We pray that every time we wear this shawl we will remember this night.

We pray that every time we wear this shawl our prayers will give strength &

hope to those who are in pain or fear or despair.

We pray that every time we wear this shawl we will radiate our inner light

and transform fear around us into compassion,

hate into love, and despair into hope.

May it be so.

Amen.
